The British Guild of Beer Writers came to HGA Digital in late-2016. Their website was almost a decade old, in need of modernisation and hopeful of a better search function for their 250 strong database of members to be found through. Wanting to drive more membership and increase visibility online, there was an absolute requirement to improve organic SEO.
We produced a mobile-first online experience for the Beer Guild. Our redesign work including delivering a new colour palette, modernised interpretation of their logo and complete digitalisation of previously offline tasks – such as membership application and award entries.
Member profiles were improved exponentially by – for the first time ever – allowing users to control their data and having access to a custom dashboard to edit their photo, areas of expertise, contact information and more! All profiles have been marked up with rich-snipped data meaning Google and Bing can better understand and interpret the information they are collecting.
The member search function utilises state-of-the-art technology and delivers results through a flexible and powerful ranking process. Accepting, analysing interpreting typos, synonyms and relevance help to ensure as many accurate results are returned for each and every search on the website.
