HGA Digital proudly launched the all-new Beer Guild website last month. You can read more about the project in our case study.
The website rebuild would be the biggest overhaul in almost a decade. Eager to know more about the Guild, we made plans to attend their annual awards in London. Although we’d previously rebuilt the Pub is The Hub website and therefore had good knowledge of the industry, we were keen to identify the individuality of the Guild.
The awards took place in December just down the road from The Ritz Hotel. An evening of beer tasting, networking and member recognition provided invaluable insight into the members and what they cared most about. We wanted to capture the passion and community we had seen at the awards on their website.
Built on WordPress, we deployed the website as a 250-strong member website. For the first time in its history, we wanted the website and its member content to be accessible and controlled by each individual member. Custom user roles with permissions meant members couldn’t access the dashboard but were still able to edit their member data, which not only improved security, but in addition, improved the user experience too.
The search function uses intelligent algorithms to return relevant matches to member searches. This differs from typical search queries provided by traditional databases, which would return simple results with no order of relevance. Using comprehensive filters, users can facet their search to refine results to match exact criteria.
We made a variety of similar important changes including SSL encryption and using Google for email hosting. Being on WordPress, we wanted to tighten security using our best tried and tested practices.
